“Why We Fight”

Have a look over at Polygon for an article written about the ShackTac community, as experienced by a covert journalist.

I was in Shack Tactical now, an elite Arma gaming group, embedded with them as a new recruit. To keep the experience pure I withheld my true identity as a writer. I was there to document a kind of role playing experience that can’t be found anywhere else, and I didn’t need someone showing off or holding back because I was there to observe them.

I joined ShackTac to find out what kept these men and women fighting, together, two nights a week for nearly eight years. I was here to experience their style of play, and also to feel what they felt.

Our Blackhawk was packed with nearly 20 people. Sitting around me were both fireteams from Charlie squad, our complement of leadership and medical support staff as well as pilots and gunners.

We had crossed an invisible line on the map. We were in enemy territory now.

ShackTac Name Tags released, ShackTac User Interface compilation established

The new ShackTac Name Tags mod can be read about here, and here’s a summary video:

A new method of distribution has been created, known as the ShackTac User Interface. This includes all UI-related ShackTac mods – you can pick and choose what you’d like to use from the compilation. Read more about that, as well as details on the other STUI mods, here.

Note that the latest STUI now includes the STHUD UserMenu, Map Autobrightness, and ShackTac Interact, as well as supports the new CBA in-game keybinding methods.

ShackTac Stamina Bar mod released!

100,000 Youtube Subs, ShackTac from Flashpoint to Now, and Going Patreon

There are three things I’d like you to see if you have a few moments.

The first is a tribute to the evolution of ShackTac from OFP to Arma 3.

The second is a very personal commentary on hitting 100,000 subscribers on my Youtube channel.

The last is a video talking about how I’ve decided to open up a Patreon page through which support can be given towards my various different productions. If you have a moment, I’ve described it through video form – and the page itself has further details on how I envision it working.

I look forward to seeing what the future holds – the past eight and a half years have been remarkable, but I’d like to think that there’s still a vast amount left to discover and create. Thank you for being a part of that! 🙂

E-mail update and more community guides

I get a lot of e-mail, and despite my efforts to answer in a timely fashion, sometimes things back up. I just spent a few hours going through my inbox to deal with everything I reasonably could in order to clean things up. If you haven’t heard back from me on an important issue (this does NOT include ShackTac join requests!), please send me another e-mail, as I’m considering everything prior to today as having been dealt with or abandoned out of necessity. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Also, since my last update I’ve done another three community guides, as follows:

ShackTac Group Indicators released

We’ve just released a new mod in the ShackTac collection, called ShackTac Group Indicators, or STGI for short. For more on how it works, I’ve created a video describing it, and you can find further information (including downloads) here.
